Why study Chemistry at UZH?

Chemistry has a long tradition at the University of Zurich. The first chair of chemistry was created in 1833 and a study program in chemistry was introduced.

Today, 9 female and 14 male professors as well as a number of private lecturers and senior scientists teach at the Department of Chemistry. They guarantee optimal training and supervision in excellently equipped laboratories.

The University of Zurich has a major/minor system. This means that a major study programme (main subject) in chemistry can be combined with a minor study programme (minor subject) in another natural science discipline or with a freely selectable subject from the entire range offered by the University of Zurich. However, chemistry can also be studied as a mono-subject (without a minor).

The first two years of the study program are identical for the Chemistry and Biochemistry (chemical track) degree programs. After these two years, you can continue your studies in either chemistry or biochemistry. 

The University of Zurich is the only university in Switzerland to offer a single degree programme in business chemistry.
