Study structure

A Bachelor's degree program always comprises 180 ECTS. These 180 ECTS can be put together in different ways.

If you want to study chemistry exclusively, choose the mono study program with 180 ECTS.

Those who prefer more variety can study chemistry as a major and additionally take a minor. The minor can comprise 30 or 60 ECTS credits. Students who choose a minor with 30 ECTS must complete the chemistry major with 150 ECTS. Students who choose a minor with 60 ECTS must earn 120 ECTS from the chemistry major.

The Bachelor's degree in Chemistry as a single subject (BSc 180) and the Major in Chemistry (BSc 150, BSc 120) do not differ in the fundamentals, but do differ in the breadth and depth of the knowledge taught.

A major can also be taken in the Master's program, but this extends the duration of studies and the ECTS from the minor must be acquired in addition to the 90 ECTS from the Master's program.

By choosing a minor, you can give your studies a profile weighted according to your own interests. In principle, you can choose any subject offered at UZH. For organizational reasons, we recommend a minor  from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
