The 2026 Ruzicka Prize, supported by dsm firmenich, goes to Alexandria Deliz Liang, Assistant Professor for Digital Bioinorganic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Zurich. Prof. Deliz Liang is awarded the Prize for her innovative use of genetically encoded non-canonical amino acids to understand and control enzyme catalysis.

Nina Hartrampf is among ten researchers at UZH who have been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant.

Since November 2025, the Department of Chemistry at UZH’s Irchel Campus has hosted the world’s most powerful nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, enabling researchers to study complex compounds and understand how they work in entirely new ways.

The University of Zurich was the first university in Europe to admit women and the first in the world to award a doctorate in chemistry to a woman, Lydia Sesemann from Viborg. The Swiss Academy of Sciences is now honoring the University of Zurich as an important historical site for chemistry with a Chemical Landmark.
