Ilija Čorić obtained his Diploma in Chemistry in 2006 from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and afterwards worked for two years as a medicinal chemist at the GlaxoSmithKline Research Centre Zagreb. In 2008 he moved to the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany) and obtained his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat., awarded by the University of Cologne) working in the area of asymmetric organocatalysis with Prof. Benjamin List. From 2013 to 2016 Ilija was a postdoctoral associate at Yale University with Prof. Patrick Holland developing iron complexes as models for the active site of nitrogenase enzymes. In September 2016 Ilija started his independent research as a group leader at the University of Zurich. In 2021 he was promoted to assistant professor for organic chemistry at UZH.
