was presented to OCI researcher Dr. Deniz Tasdemir
(Group of Prof. Peter Rüedi) by The Society for
Medicinal Plant Research (Gesellschaft
für Arzneipflanzenforschung) in recognition of her highly valuable contributions
to natural product chemistry, in particular by her outstanding phytochemical and pharmacological studies in the fields of
plant and marine natural products against malaria and cancer.
The Egon Stahl Award was founded in 1985 by the Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzenforschung
on the occasion of 60th
birthday of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult.
Egon Stahl, a natural product chemist who developed
Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). As a rule, the silver medal and an award of €
3000 are presented biannually to a scientist who has published outstanding
scientific work during the years after graduation.
Dr. Tasdemir has
recently received another prestigious award, the Pierre-Fabre
Preis 2004 of the The
Phytochemical Society of Europe. This
award is given to a young European scientist who has made an exceptional
contribution to phytochemistry or plant biochemistry.
